Multi-tasking is a bust. “Having it all” is a myth. In our fast paced world, the stress under which we suffer is largely avoidable. In this course, we examine how the human animal is wired and the intricate weaving of the nervous system with every other system of life. Drawing from yoga philosophy and modern medical research, we’ll explore how Restorative Yoga could be considered mandatory for surviving our modern jungle.

What makes this course different: I taught Restorative yoga for years focused on passive stretching. The classic “chest opener” where we drape the body over a bolster and let the arms dangle, or reclining bound angle pose to “open the groins” were postures I personally enjoyed. Then I took Jillian Pransky‘s restorative training. Her deep understanding of self compassion and holistic healing transformed my idea of the purpose of restorative yoga. It has become about artful propping that brings the earth to the body in a comforting hug. It has become about recognizing the difference between tight areas and habitually held unnecessary tension. It has become a deep expression of holding space for whatever I find in myself during my own practice or that which my students present. My colleague (Oda Lindner) refers to this shift in our approach as “relaxation as a pathway to enlightenment”. So this course does cover many different ways to use props, but provides more focus on why we would prop and what to do once you’re in the pose. Read more about this type of Restorative Yoga here…
